“progetto Isole” is a public art and community based project which introduced, in Sicilian artistic context, issues and methodologies of participatory practices and territorial development.
Based in the towns of Isola delle Femmine and Piana degli Albanesi, in the province of Palermo, this lab engaged artists from different countries with the aim of stimulating the creative intervention in public spaces of natural and social interest.
The project’s activities have taken many different forms including temporary interventions, sculptural installations, performance and curatorial programs over long periods of time. The artists have been invited to respond to a places through different perspectives and to involve the inhabitants both in the preliminary stage of research and in the following process that led to the exhibitions as a form of restitution of the experience we shared. Through workshops, debates, interviews, the artists have been invited to investigate the landscape and the social fabric of a living community, spreading their works in public spaces like the square, the port, the main streets of the towns, but also involving private spaces like bar, private houses or gardens.
